For Big Stakes

A Fox western built on horsemanship rather than plot, and honest about it.

What

A 1922 one-sheet for the Fox Film Corporation western directed by Lynn Reynolds.

Why

Fox's early-twenties westerns were programme pictures made fast and cheap, and they kept the genre commercially alive between Griffith-scale epics. The posters are frequently the only surviving artefact, as the negatives largely burned in the 1937 Fox vault fire.

Notice

The action pose is drawn from a production still but redrawn by hand — compare the horse's legs to any photograph and the illustrator's liberties are obvious.

“A whole genre remembered mostly by its advertising.”

Format

Sized to protect print quality — this scan supports sizes up to 24x36" cleanly.
