Hollywood
The film industry's first full-length look at itself, and it chose to play the joke.
What
A 1923 six-sheet — a large multi-panel poster pasted up as a single billboard-scale image — for the Paramount satire directed by James Cruze.
Why
Cruze filled the picture with dozens of stars appearing as themselves, at the exact moment the industry's scandals had made 'Hollywood' a word with a second meaning. The film is lost; only a fragment is known to survive.
Notice
The near-square proportion, unusual among surviving sheets, which is the six-sheet format assembled rather than a single printed piece.
“A town describing itself before the description hardened.”
Format
The full-resolution, color-managed file — restored honestly, yours to print and keep.
Sized to protect print quality — this scan supports sizes up to 24x36" cleanly.
