The Broadway Melody, Lobby Card

A chorus line in costume, MGM 1929.

What

A 1929 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer lobby card for The Broadway Melody, an American pre-Code musical.

Why

It was the first sound film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, and its Technicolor sequence helped start a run of colour musicals in 1929 and 1930.

Notice

A dancer in blue drawn at left grips a giant treble clef, and the banner under the title promises talking, dancing and singing, in that order.
