Mike's Brainstorm

A Selig wild-animal comedy, advertised with the confidence of a circus and the budget of one.

What

A 1912 colour lithograph one-sheet, about 102 by 77 centimetres, issued by the Selig Polyscope Company.

Why

Selig was among the first producers to bring live animals into narrative comedy, and one of the first American companies to shoot in Los Angeles. This sheet is from the moment before the feature film existed, when a one-reeler still had to be sold like a sideshow.

Notice

The billing hierarchy — the studio name sits above the title, because in 1912 the brand that audiences trusted was the company, not the picture and not the player.

“Before stars, the studio was the promise.”

Format

The full-resolution, color-managed file — restored honestly, yours to print and keep.
