The Green Eyed Monster

Two railroad men, one woman, and a locomotive race - made for theatres the studios ignored.

What

A 1919 poster for the Norman Film Manufacturing Company's all-Black-cast railroad drama.

Why

Norman's biggest commercial success, built around a full-scale locomotive chase staged with real rolling stock. It circulated for years on the race-film circuit and is now lost, leaving the advertising to carry the evidence of a production that outspent most of its independent contemporaries.

Notice

The railroad imagery given the whole sheet - the spectacle, not the romance, is what the exhibitor was buying.

“An independent cinema running at full steam.”
