The Trooper of Troop K
The Tenth Cavalry at Carrizal, filmed by a company Black actors built for themselves.
What
A 1917 poster for the Lincoln Motion Picture Company production, dramatising the 1916 Carrizal engagement in which the Army's Black Tenth Cavalry took heavy losses.
Why
Lincoln was the first film company founded and run by Black Americans, formed expressly to put dignified Black characters on screen against an industry that would not. Taking a real cavalry action as its subject was a direct claim on national military memory.
Notice
The poster advertises a documented battle rather than a genre situation - an unusual and pointed choice for a 1917 independent release.
“A history the mainstream screen declined to film.”
Format
The full-resolution, color-managed file — restored honestly, yours to print and keep.
