Ukhaby (Potholes)

A marriage coming apart in a housing shortage, from the director who filmed the same subject better than anyone.

What

A chromolithographed sheet in the wide double format, 107 by 140 cm, published by Sovkino in Moscow in 1927 in an edition of 15,000.

Why

Abram Room made the era's most unsparing films about private life under socialism. A sheet this large was billing-board scale, pasted where it could not be missed — an unusual investment for a domestic drama.

Notice

The sheer width. At 140 cm across this was printed to occupy a hoarding, and the composition is paced for a viewer walking past rather than standing still.

“Domestic ruin, at the scale of a public announcement.”

Format

The full-resolution, color-managed file — restored honestly, yours to print and keep.

Sized to protect print quality — this scan supports sizes up to 24x36" cleanly.

Size
