Vintik iz drugoy mashiny (A Cog from Another Machine)

A title that is already a whole political argument before the film has begun.

What

A chromolithographed one-sheet, 108 by 72 cm, published by Proletkino in Moscow in 1926.

Why

Proletkino was one of the smaller studios competing in the crowded mid-1920s Soviet market, and its surviving graphic output is correspondingly thin. The film itself is largely lost to general circulation; the poster is much of what remains of it.

Notice

The mechanical metaphor carried into the drawing itself — the sheet is organised as an assembly, parts fitted to parts.

“A person described as a component, and advertised as one.”

Format

The full-resolution, color-managed file — restored honestly, yours to print and keep.

Size
