The Thief of Bagdad, Sovkino Release

A grin in gold over a blue city of domes.

What

Leonid Voronov's Sovkino sheet for the 1924 American fantasy, printed in Moscow in an edition of 15,000.

Why

Sovkino filled its screens with imported adventure, and Voronov sold it with one painted head and a title lettered in dots like marquee bulbs.

Notice

The sheet is a narrow strip, 100.5 by 36.2 cm; the moon and the minarets take the whole lower third.
