Oblomok imperii (Fragment of an Empire)

A shell-shocked soldier wakes years late into a country he no longer recognises.

What

A chromolithograph and autotype sheet, 94 by 61 cm, published by Sovkino in Leningrad in an edition of 10,000 and printed at the Sokol typolithography.

Why

Friedrich Ermler's film is the great Soviet study of amnesia as history, and the poster trade around it was competitive enough that Sovkino commissioned more than one design. This is the Voronov version.

Notice

The way flat printed colour is set against photographic autotype in the same sheet — two different technologies of image arguing on one surface.

“A man reassembled from pieces, advertised by a picture assembled the same way.”

Format

The full-resolution, color-managed file — restored honestly, yours to print and keep.

Size

$29.00
