Invidia

Envy, one panel of a seven-part serial that gave each deadly sin its own feature film.

What

Carlo Nicco's 1919 locandina for Invidia, an instalment of I sette peccati capitali — a serial in which each of the seven deadly sins received its own picture, all headlined by the same diva.

Why

The Italian diva film ran on allegory and gesture rather than plot, and this campaign is its purest expression: an entire production slate organised around a medieval moral scheme.

Notice

Nicco keeps the palette narrow and lets the figure carry the whole sheet — no scene, no incident, only a personification.

“A sin cast as a woman, and a woman cast as a season's worth of cinema.”
