Loetoeng Kasaroeng
A Sundanese folk tale becomes the first film made in the Indies, and gets a poster to prove it happened.
What
The 1926 poster for Loetoeng Kasaroeng, the first feature produced in the Dutch East Indies, adapted from a Sundanese legend and shot in Bandung with local performers.
Why
Almost the entire pre-war Indonesian film output is lost, the film included. Printed paper is frequently the only surviving trace of a national cinema's beginning, and this sheet is one of those traces.
Notice
The typography carries the old Dutch-influenced spelling — 'oe' where modern Indonesian writes 'u' — which dates the sheet as precisely as any signature.
“A cinema's first day, surviving only as an advertisement for itself.”
Format
The full-resolution, color-managed file — restored honestly, yours to print and keep.
Sized to protect print quality — this scan supports sizes up to 18x24" cleanly.
