Rongyosok

Budapest's own picture, drawn for Budapest's own walls, in the lean years after the studios emptied.

What

György Nemes's 1926 Hungarian poster for Rongyosok, held today in the National Széchényi Library's poster collection.

Why

Hungary's remarkable 1910s film industry — which produced the young Korda and the young Curtiz — was gutted by the political convulsions of 1919, and most of its talent left. This sheet is from the thin recovery afterwards, when domestic production was rare enough to be an event.

Notice

The tight portrait framing set against flat colour; Nemes builds the sheet around faces because the names were the draw.

“What was left of a cinema, still putting up posters.”

Format

The full-resolution, color-managed file — restored honestly, yours to print and keep.

Sized to protect print quality — this scan supports sizes up to 18x24" cleanly.
