Course de taureaux à Séville

The bullring brought north to Paris on a sheet of coloured stone.

What

A Pathé Frères affiche of 1907 for the actuality Course de taureaux à Séville, drawn and printed at the Atelier Faria.

Why

Before the feature film existed, Pathé sold the world itself — bullfights, coronations, foreign streets — as short actualities, and the poster was the only colour the audience would see. These sheets are the surviving evidence of how travel and spectacle were marketed when the films themselves were three minutes long.

Notice

The lithograph is credited to the Atelier Faria as printer as well as designer — a single Paris workshop doing the drawing, the stone and the press.

“The whole world for the price of a ticket, and a poster to prove it.”
