Le Reflet vivant

A reflection steps out of its mirror, and the poster gets there before the film does.

What

A landscape-format Pathé Frères affiche of 1908 for Camille de Morlhon's trick film Les Reflets vivants, from Faria's atelier.

Why

Pathé was by 1908 the largest film company on earth, and its posters travelled further than its prints. Faria's job was to make a one-reel conceit legible to a passer-by in seconds — the doubled figure here does the whole plot in a single image, no text required.

Notice

The horizontal format, unusual for a poster, matches the shape of the screen — Faria is quoting the projected frame itself.

“One image carrying an entire story, because a passer-by had only a moment to be caught.”

Format

The full-resolution, color-managed file — restored honestly, yours to print and keep.
